How might the concept of
produsage be applied in your life (personal and/or professional) as it stands
today? Are you already a produser? If yes, what do you do? If no, why not?
According to Dr. Axel Bruns’ article, I am currently
active user in several user-led environments; such as Facebook (social
networking tool), LinkedIn (professional networking tool), google maps
(knowledge management tool). I’m also familiar with mulit user online gaming
through my husband’s hobbies of Spartacus and Call of Duty.
My current understanding is that produsage takes user-led
environments to the next level of active consumers and producers and is more collaborative
than the individual based user-led environments listed above. I would say my
closest experience to being a produser is the course discussion board and my
blog (now that I have interaction between my peers on the site). I also
participate in certain review sites where the users review different services
to produce all the website content, would that be considered a produser?
Would it be a stretch to say the concept of produsage is
the online/technology that online professional communities of practice rely on?
(I’m thinking in terms of the collaborative brainstorming).
I asked myself the same question about whether making reviews on TripAdvisor or Google+ constitute produsage? In the end, I decided to go with a "yes" and call myself a produser too! Unless somebody else says "no", I can't see how that doesn't fall under "creation of new knowledge".
ReplyDeleteMolly is definitely a produser in Facebook for me.
ReplyDeleteShe took many pictures for Molly's crew.
Those are memorable for my life.
Molly,
ReplyDeleteInteresting thought- I never considered review sites as produsage (and shockingly, I very rarely review anything online), but I would agree with you and gohcy and say that it is a form of produsage!
And Tang- I believe it's just The Gang, I've never heard of this Molly's crew you speak of! :)
Not exactly CoP - as Gohcy mentioned - even reviewing and commenting on TripAdvisor or Google+ is produsage! :-)
