VoiceThread sparked my curiosity!

Has anyone in this class ever used VoiceThread? I definitely found the examples for what is VoiceThread very amusing! But the tutorial left me wondering how is VoiceThread used? Why is it used? Does it only work for photos or could you run several powerpoint type slide through? Could it be used to give a presentation?

Luckily the ideas for using VoiceThread guided me to some answers and this is what I have discovered so far....

It can be used in the classroom to boost discussion, instead of using a photo in the center the instructor could pose a series of questions and have the students discuss there answers. Below is the link directly to the example VoiceThread provides:

https://voicethread.com/about/library/Higher_Ed_from_Della_Curtis/

After playing around on voice thread for awhile most of my questions were answered by going through the Digital Writing WorkShop VoiceThread (https://voicethread.com/?#q.b987651.i5263097). This VoiceThread demonstrates lecture through the application, multiple slides, combination of student and teacher text and voice comments, discussions based on a variety of slides (questions, lecture, images, word cloud).

I think this tools could be beneficial to study groups because it allows everyone to comment on the question or picture individually and then you have to click on the clip to hear the response which would limit the talk over downfall of similar applications. On a similar note that could also be a pitfall when used for conferencing because you can choose the order you hear the information and it is not real time discussion. (Unless there is an application for that I haven't uncovered.)

Help me create my first VoiceThread. I uploaded a photo from last year's Halloween party which several people in this class attended in hopes that we can build it into a VoiceThread. Go to this link below and comment via voice or text!

  1. Psst. Check out my blog. I posted a VT for you all there this afternoon -- on PLNs! And it's slides, with narration.

I know for sure that a few of your classmates are familiar with it because they used it with me in the Mobile Learning Class. We used it as a means of sharing project prototypes and getting peer feedback via the comments.

  4. I updated the link from the site which explained how to share, does it work? The recommended process seemed very similar to what I did the first time and it works for me but not everyone else. I hope thats not the case again.

If it still doesn't work does, I'm taking advice from the class, so send it my way!
I think I could share it via email but I tried to embed it to Twitter and had capability issues.

Thanks for attempting my VoiceTread! I'm going to check out the one on the course blog. Maybe that will bring some clarification.

  5. Still not working. Go through this:

    http://voicethread.com/support/howto/Playback_and_Publishing/How_do_I_change_the_Publishing_Options_of_a_VoiceThread/

and try to share through there -- you should get a screen (it's only 90% intuitive, though) that will let you toggle on/off options re: who can see/comment.

  6. Hey Molly,
    I can't access it.

However, I took Mobile Learning this spring and we used VoiceThread to present our projects. The first one I did, I think I just used images and obviously audio voice over. Our final project, I included screen capture movies with audio voice over using SnagIt and uploaded the movies into VoiceThread. The only audio recording was able to do in VoiceThread was before and after movie clips. However, it was nice after submitting the presentation to "hear" comments from classmates and Dr. Dennen. Especially as an online student, it was nice to have audio feedback. But there is also the option to leave text feedback. One day I forgot my headset, so I had to leave text feedback on a few.

I will admit, I HATE doing audio voice overs. I just had to do one for work (not voice thread, but still...) so as much as I hate doing it, by doing the presentations in Voicethread and creating my final project with Snagit, it helped my with my project for work.

    I hope this helps.
